Offshore trolling lures have revolutionized fishing in the last ten years allowing anglers to troll at higher speeds covering more ground to find more fish. Aboard the charter boat Sea Boots Capt. Jim Sharpe has been on the cutting edge of artificial lures not only in their use, but also in there design. Capt. Jim was one of the first Captains to use lures in the Florida Straights in the late 50's and 60's. On the run from Miami to Bimini in the Bahamas some 50 miles, Capt. Jim began trolling lures, to his surprise they caught billfish, wahoo, dolphin, and tuna while cruising acrossing the stream. After years of modifying existing lures Capt. Jim began designing lures. An artificial lure has to meet many demands on a offshore charter boat. The Sea Boots Kona met and exceeded all of these demands. Trolls at low or high speed with minimal friction in the water, while maintaining hydrodynamics. The lure must remain weedless, trolling through heavy Sargasso seaweed. The lure is the proper size for the gamefish imitating the flying fish one of the most plentiful baitfish. The Kona is sized perfectly, they will catch large dolphin, wahoo, tuna and billfish but at the same time they will catch a four pound schoolie dolphin, perhaps luring a school of dolphin to the boat with the hooked fish and resulting in the capture of larger fish. The Sea Boots Kona Lure is made with feathers or plastic skirts, both catch fish and are very durable. The color selection was designed by Capt. Jim after years of experimenting with the color patterns of bait fish. Sea Boots Kona Lures can be purchased in a set pre-rigged and come with instructions on how to set up the trolling pattern, land the fish and hook additional fish.

Aussie Lures

Capt. Jim developed the Aussie Lure for dolphin, wahoo, tuna and billfish. The Aussie has a slightly cupped head creating a large smoke trail at moderate trolling speeds. The striking and smoking action of the Aussie creates the specific image of a small tuna feeding. Although not as grass resistant as the Kona the concaved head of the lure not only creates more strike and smoke at moderate trolling speeds but also forces water forward kicking grass off the lure. Aboard the Sea Boots the Aussie makes a nice complement to the Kona lures creating lots of action. The Aussie is not recommended for speeds above eight knots, the Kona lure is specifically designed for the higher speeds. The Aussie is available with feather or plastic skirts and comes in six color combinations designed specifically for offshore gamefish. The Aussie can be purchased individually or in a set pre-rigged containing instructions on how to set up the trolling pattern, fight and land the fish and hook additional fish.
